A jawbone found in a child’s rock collection in Arizona more than two decades ago belonged to a Marine who died in California in 1951 and was buried in Missouri, the authorities said on Friday. Everett Leland Yager, a U.S. Marine Corps captain, was 30 years old when his plane crashed during a military training exercise on July 31, 1951, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona said in a statement. Captain Yager’s remains were recovered in Riverside County, Calif., and he was buried in Palmyra, Mo. More than 50 years later, a mother, who was not named by the authorities, found what she believed to be human remains in her son’s old rock collection, the sheriff’s office said. Christopher Mahoney as second-in-command to the U.S. Marine Corps after its top officer collapsed during a jog on Sunday and was taken to the hospital, according to a senior Senate aide. Mahoney was nominated by the White House in July but had yet to be confirmed by the Senate along with hundreds of other senior officers’ promotions who remain frozen by Tuberville, an Alabama Republican, in a political battle over the Pentagon’s abortion policy.

SYDNEY (AP) — A Sydney court on Monday postponed an extradition hearing for a former U.S. military pilot accused of illegally training Chinese aviators until May as his lawyers attempt to further build their case. Boston-born Dan Duggan, 55, was scheduled to fight his extradition to the United States at a Nov. 23 hearing in the downtown Downing Center Local Court. But a magistrate decided to use that date to rule on what additional information that the Australian defense department and security agencies should provide defense lawyers. U.S. lawyer Trent Glover told the court the United States was ready to proceed with the extradition, but had agreed with defense lawyers the hearing should take place after November. Duggan’s lawyers say they expect additional material will demonstrate the overtly political aspects of the extradition request.

The role of Paulie, who was also the brother of Rocky's painfully shy love interest and soon-to-be wife, Adrian (she marries Balboa in "Rocky II"), earned Young an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. Young reprised the Paulie role in all six of the original "Rocky" sequels. In later years, Young made a name as painter, whose works were displayed in galleries around the world.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ray Epps, a onetime Donald Trump supporter who was the target of a right-wing conspiracy theory about the Jan. 6, 2021, attack that forced him into hiding, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge for his role in the U.S. Capitol riot. After the riot, he became the focus of a conspiracy theory — echoed by right-wing news outlets — that he was a secret government agent who incited the Capitol attack. Epps said he heard from a relative shortly after he returned home from Washington that his picture was on an FBI website. Soon after, Epps contacted the FBI to provide his information and his attorney told investigators he wanted to cooperate with the investigation. Roughly 670 people have pleaded guilty, and of those 480 pleaded to misdemeanor charges, according to an Associated Press analysis of court records.

It's unclear why the pilot ejected, but the jet may have flown on autopilot for some time afterwards.
